WhatsApp said that the court ruling has no impact on the planned policy and ToS

After WhatsApp was slammed by the Delhi High Court last week based on a PIL filed by two Indian students with regards to sharing of user data with its parent company Facebook Inc, it seems like WhatsApp is in no mood to comply with the ruling. In a statement, WhatsApp said that they are sharing the data with Facebook as planned. The Delhi High Court’s directive has not impacted any of its planned changes to the terms of service and privacy policy.

A spokesperson for WhatsApp, Anne Yeh told Mashable “the ruling has no impact on the planned policy and terms of service updates”

Facebook-owned WhatsApp, a messaging service application for mobile phones had changed their privacy policy on August 25 which now states that they will be sharing all their users’ data with the parent company Facebook Inc and all other companies below Facebook.

This data will be used for their internal analysis and will help the company improve their services ahead and also help in targeting advertisements to users on Facebook. Users had a 30-day time frame to decide if they want WhatsApp to allow their data to be shared across and September 25 was the last date for users to opt in or out.

The decision caused uproar all over the world with users protesting against WhatsApp decision and promise where the service initially stated that all user data would be kept private and not shared across any other platform. Users in many countries protested against Facebook and WhatsApp and courts ruled out in favour of the users.

In Germany, the government too ruled against the data sharing move by WhatsApp and Facebook has not complied with the decision. Facebook has planned to appeal against the said ruling.

In India too, the Delhi High Court had ruled against WhatsApp’s privacy policy. However, Facebook seems to be in no mood to comply and stated that they will proceed with the data sharing as planned. The High Court had also directed the TRAI to take the matter into priority and consider bringing WhatsApp and similar OTT-based services under regulation.
