Asus' Zenfone 5 leaks again, shows off iPhone X design

While Samsung is one of the biggest exhibitors at the MWC 2018, Taiwan’s smartphone and computer giant Asus is also expected to showcase their next generation of flagship smartphones. The Zenfone 5 series is expected to be unveiled with the latest generation of Qualcomm chipsets and a new design. A leak came out yesterday depicting the Zenfone 5 in a heavily-inspired iPhone X body. However, another leak of the Asus phone has confirmed that the Zenfone 5 is indeed after the iPhone X’s blood.

Folks at WinFuture.de have managed to get early renders of the Zenfone 5 and if these are to become true by the next week at MWC, then Asus’ Zenfone 5 will a direct knock-off of the iPhone X. The renders show the smartphone with an 18:9 narrow-bezel display with the infamous notch on top.

However, as we said earlier, the notch is a little bit smaller than the one on the iPhone X. This could be because the renders show the notch to only contain the earpiece, the usual array of sensors and the front camera — there’s no FaceID-inspired facial recognition technology seen here. The bottom bezel is a slightly thicker than that of the iPhone X, which could be the only hint of this Asus being different from the Apple flagship.

The rear of the smartphone is also expected to feature a vertically stacked dual camera setup in the same position as the iPhone X. The only saving grace is the presence of a fingerprint sensor and the Asus branding. Apart from that, there will be a USB Type-C port and a bottom-mounted loudspeaker.

The Zenfone 5’s affordable sibling, the Zenfone 5 Lite has also been leaked. The renders of the 5 Lite show a dual camera setup at the rear and the front. The 5 Lite doesn’t copy the iPhone X’s design but comes with an 18:9 display with noticeable bezels around the display. There’s a micro USB port for charging the device alongside a loudspeaker and a microphone.

It remains to be seen whether Asus could make unveil the Zenfone 5 at an affordable price point, which would them make this sell like hotcakes amongst financially-deprived iPhone X aspirers. Keep a tab here for all the information regarding the Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5 Lite.
