Create your own Virtual Private Network

The makers of the Opera browser have launched a useful free app for those who want to enhance their online privacy, block cookies that track their browsing habits and reach sites or services that are geographically restricted (for example you cannot look at Facebook or Gmail when you travel in some countries).

The Opera VPN app is now available for both Android and Apple devices. It also helps you create a virtual private network of your own — a sort of virtual ring fence around your internet surfing, that is similar to what all corporates do on their company networks.

The app has an additional tool which will sniff at any public WiFi hotspot you may use and alert you if it is vulnerable to hacking.
