Mumbai squash players shine in Jordon

The higher seeded boys Tushar, Neel and Yuvraj, all seeded at two, made it to the title round.

Mumbai: Mumbai youngsters Neel Joshi, Yuvraj Wadhwani and Tushar Shahani won silver medals in their respective categories at the Junior Individual Squash Championship that concluded in Amman, Jordan on Saturday. India claimed three silver and six bronze medals in the event. The bronze medals came to the credit of Sunayna Kuruvilla, Ashita Pranaya, Yoshna Singh, Ananya Dabke, Navmi Sharma and Yuvna Gupta, who lost the semi-finals.

The semi-final results went as per seedings. The higher seeded boys Tushar, Neel and Yuvraj, all seeded at two, made it to the title round. Neel had the most impressive outing in the U-15 category with a straight victory over his Iranian opponent Danial Gharooni. But top seed Muhammad Amir Amirul Bin Azhar of Malaysia beat Joshi 11-8, 9-11, 12-10, 11-9 in the final.

Wadhwani beat Paarth Ambani (5/8) 12-10, 11-8, 7-11, 12-14, 12-10 in a thrilling U-13 semifinal but top seed Joachim Chuah Han Wen beat Wadhwani 11-9, 11-9, 11-8 in straight sets.

Shahani beat To Wai Lok (5/8) of Hong Kong 10-12, 5-11, 11-7, 11-6,11-7 in the U-17 semi-final. However, he too couldn't win the title. Top seed Siow Yee Xian of Malaysia defeated Shahani 11-7, 11-4, 11-7 in straight sets.
