“I am very happy. He is one of my idols and I would love to play a practice round with him,” the 21-year-old said.
Gurgaon: Shubhankar Sharma was the recipient of a surprise phone call, his second in as many days, this time from four-time major champion and former world no 1 Rory Mcllroy, who on Thursday invited him to a practice round at Augusta National ahead of the Masters.
“I am very happy. He is one of my idols and I would love to play a practice round with him,” the 21-year-old said.
“I’ve been able to watch a little bit of him on TV. Obviously he’s won a couple times on the European Tour, had a good chance to win and played in the final group last Sunday with Phil Mickelson,” said McIlroy from Palm Harbour in Florida. “Playing in the Masters will be a great experience.”
