Mumbai: Relegated Mumbai FC capped their worst ever season with a 0-4 result against Kolkata giants East Bengal at the Cooperage here on Saturday. Bikash Jairu launched the onslaught, Trinidad and Tobago import Willis Deon Plaza scored a brace while Haitian Wedson Anselme also netted to confirm East Bengal’s top three I-League finish.

Keeping in mind the Federation Cup, East Bengal seniors like Robin Singh, Arnab Mondal and Lalrindika Ralte. Mehtab Hossain and Romeo Fernandes played their part as substitutes.

East Bengal displayed their physical advantage by winning aerial duels and were ahead by the eighth minute. The unmarked Jairu blasted a powerful left footer over goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani on an Anselme pass.

East Bengal widened the lead when sloppy passing between defenders inside Mumbai FC half allowed Plaza to cash in and slot the ball past a diving Kattimani in the 42nd minute. Jairu returned the favour of the first goal assist to Anselme from the left and the Haitian made no mistake in the 62nd minute. Plaza inflicted further misery on the hosts with a powerful finish in the 68th minute.
