New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday restrained former BCCI president N. Srinivasan and former secretary Niranjan Shah from participating in the SGM of the BCCI to be held on July 26 as nominees of the their respective state associations.

A three-judge bench of justices Dipak Misra, A.M. Kanwilkar and D.Y. Chandrachud passed this order on the basis of the fourth status report of the COA seeking such a direction.

The bench made it clear that only the office-bearers of the state associations can attend the meeting as representatives.

Rejecting the submissions of senior counsel Kapil Sibal, that Srinivasan was not disqualified to attend the meetings as a nominee, the bench said the legal aspects would be considered later.

It asked the BCCI and state associations to fall in line with Lodha panel recommendations as far as practicable and agreed to examine issues including ‘one association, one vote’, pertaining to membership in the BCCI and restricting the number of selectors to three.

The court took on record the names furnished in a sealed cover by the amicus curiae, Gopal Subramanian for filling the two vacancies in the COA caused by the resignaitons of Ramachndra Guha and Vikram Limaye.
