New Delhi: Chris Gayle may be running his last miles in international career, but the 38-year-old Jamaican big-hitter is confident that he would be fit for next year’s 50-over World Cup to be held in England.

“I will have to sit with the coaches and selectors and ask them about their plan. I am confident of playing in the World Cup. My plan is to play till 2020 World T20 in Australia,” Gayle said here on Friday.

When asked if the recently retired AB de Villiers’ absence would take the sheen off the premier event, Gayle said: “What are you worried for? Chris Gayle will be there.”

Gayle said India captain Virat Kohli’s hundred in the first Test against England would inspire the struggling Indian batting line-up.

“It was a captain’s knock from Virat. It’s a great start to the series for India. Virat single-handedly carried the fight to the opposition. This must surely be one of his best Test innings,” he said.

“Hopefully this knock will spur him and the team,” added the flamboyant Jamaican.
