Woman files FIR against Jet Airways for theft from bag

A Jet Airways passenger upset with the airline after losing her bag and finding it after a gap of 10 days and allegedly losing valuables worth `1.40 lakh in the process, has filed an FIR at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on Monday.

Sarita Mansharam (26), a Navi Mumbai resident who works at J.W. Marriott Hotel, Sahar, as assistant bar manager, on December 6 last year left Mumbai to attend an official meeting in the US and returned on January 7. She flying with Jet Airways.

Ms Mansharam said that from Dallas Airport, she boarded an American Airways flight to Newark from where she flew to Brussels via the same airline. As per airline tie-ups, at Brussels, she was shifted to a Jet Airways flight to Mumbai.

After arriving at Mumbai airport, Ms Mansharam retrieved only two bags at the baggage counter whereas she was carrying three. She called the airline helpline and wrote a few emails.

The same day, she also submitted to the airline a list of valuables that the missing bag contained.

Responding to a call from the airline on January 16, when Ms Mansharam went to the airport to collect her missing bag, it was torn from one side and upon checking the contents, she found valuables worth `1.40 lakh missing.

“I had a few branded perfumes, watches and two iPhones in the bag,” she said.
