Two men were mowed down and allegedly murdered by two others after a quarrel broke out over the ‘right of way’ through a field in Pimpalgaon Dhoom village of Dindori tehsil of Nashik district. This incident has raised tension in the area and additional police had to be brought into the village on Friday night. The relatives of the deceased had refused to cremate the bodies until the murderers were arrested.

Investigating officer assistant police inspector (API) Khanderao Ranjawe said on Saturday that they arrested four persons on Friday night. “Two others are absconding and we are on their trail,” he said. Sources said that there was an ongoing quarrel between the Ghivande and Bejekar families over ‘right of way’.

Local resident Vasant Bejekar had bought the land meant for the road and used it as his private road. Earlier this road was used by locals Bhaskar Ghivande, Bakerao Ghivande and Ramnath Korale. Bejekar told them that they would have to pay him to use the road. A quarrel ensued between the groups in the morning. Revenue officials including tehsildar Mandar Kulkarni surveyed the site and urged the groups to amicably solve their issue.

In the afternoon the groups fought each other. After the fight both groups started to go to the Dindori police station to file complaints. On the road, Uttam Tukaram Ghivande with his group was in a pickup truck while the other group were on two motorcycles. The pickup first knocked down rider Vishnu Kashid and pillion rider Vasant Bejekar. Kashid sped up and drove into in a ditch. Both were slightly injured.

Ghivande then knocked down the other motorcycle with three riders. Two riders Balkrishna Kashid and Sampat Gangurde fell on the road while Waman Bejekar fell in the ditch and escaped.

Sources said that Ghivande in his pickup truck reversed the vehicle and again mowed them down.
