The Central Board of Secondary Education conducted Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) (Main) results were declared on Wednesday.

The Central Board of Secondary Education conducted Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) (Main) results were declared on Wednesday. The exams held on April 3 in the offline mode and April 9 and 10 in the online mode saw around 1,98,228 students qualify for the JEE (Advanced). While the JEE Apex Board (JAB) that declared the results did not declare the individual list of toppers, Mumbai’s Priya Shaha with a score of 330 is being touted as the topper in the state. Shriram B with a score of 315, Ameya Patil and Shabrish Chandra with scores of 311 were the other top scorers from Mumbai.

According to statistics released by the CBSE, around 11,28,636 students appeared for the offline and online exams which comprised 8,43,484 male and 2,84,449 girl students. The cut off for the general category has come down to 100 while that for the OBC/SC/ST it is 70/52/48. While the board admitted that the cut offs have come down over last year it is not an indicator of anything amiss.

The JEE (main) is the first step towards getting admissions to the undergraduate engineering programs at NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded technical institutions. The scores of the JEE (main) along with the performance in class 12 will be taken into consideration for admission to the above institutions.

For the 1.9 lakh students who qualified for JEE (Advanced), trumping the exam will make them eligible for admissions to one of the 17 Indian Institute of Technology (IITs).
