Turkey consul general Erdal Sabri Ergen on Monday said that his country’s government has requested the Indian and Maharashtra governments to shut down institutions in Mumbai linked to the Fethullah “terror” network — which it had claimed was behind last month’s attempted coup in that country.

Mr Ergen further said that the Fethullah was connected to several institutions in Mumbai and other places in India, and was responsible for the failed coup in Turkey on July 15, which left 239 dead and nearly 2,200 injured.

The Turkey government has informed Indian officials about the same a few days ago, he said.

“We have requested the Indian and Maharashtra governments that all institutions in Mumbai and elsewhere connected with this network be closed. Fethullah terror organisation (Feto) controls a number of educational, cultural, and business organisations in Mumbai and other areas of the country. The government must close everything and put it under a strong microscope. We have communicated with the Maharashtra government and our ambassador is in touch with Delhi officials too,” said Mr Ergen.

He added, “We have relayed the relevant information about all those suspected to be responsible for the incident to the Indian government. We have also submitted the documents pertaining to the same, but we cannot reveal the details. It’s an initiative to stop their illegal network all over world. We have informed the same to other countries too.”
