The Bombay high court on Tuesday directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to complete its pothole repair work by October 31.

The Bombay high court on Tuesday directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to complete its pothole repair work by October 31. A division bench of Jutices Shantanu Kemkar and Makrand Karnik, who were hearing a suo-moto PIL on the pothole issue, gave the order.

Earlier, the court had asked the BMC to submit its report on the amount of repair work completed till date. On Tuesday, BMC counsel Anil Sakhare submitted a report claiming that they had completed a substantial amount of work. According to the report submitted by him, BMC have mended 254 roads. Mr Sakhare also pointed out that road maintenance is not the sole responsibility of the BMC and that many roads fall under the jurisdiction of Public Works Department.
