The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will lend a helping hand to the Maharashtra Rifle Association (MRA) to develop its rifle club, which has produced several international famed shooters, at Worli.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will lend a helping hand to the Maharashtra Rifle Association (MRA) to develop its rifle club, which has produced several international famed shooters, at Worli.

According to the civic officials, the BMC has allotted a plot admeasuring 5016.34 square metres located at Worli estate on Abdul Gafar Khan Road on a 40-year lease since April 17, 1986 to MRA. MRA established a rifle club at this site.

The rifle club is one of the very few clubs of its kind in the city, where the MRA presently provides a preliminary shooting range with 10-metre, 25-metre and 50-metre ranges. Though fully functional, the facilities presently provided by the club now need an upgrade. Keeping the shooting ranges as the preliminary function, it has been decided to develop the club with state-of-the-art equipment and technology, so as to provide world-class shooting facilities.

“The BMC has discussed the matter with the MRA to explore the possibility of developing this club by providing world-class facilities for rifle shooting. The BMC also plans to partner in the development of the rifle club. However, it would need amendment in the articles of association, memorandum of association of MRA and also modifications in the lease terms. The proposal of the club along with the draft MoU and articles of association of the BMC will be placed before the corporation for approval,” said civic chief Ajoy Mehta. The BMC has made a budgetary provision of Rs 2 crore in the year 2106-17 for the development of the rifle club.
