A beautician from Tulinj, Nalla Sopara has filed a complaint against an alleged Congress worker from Vasai for raping and cheating her. The police is currently on the lookout for the accused who is absconding.

Commenting on the case, assistant police inspector Sudarshan Potdar said, “We have registered cases under section 376 (rape) 377 (unnatural sex) 420 (cheating) 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC against the accused Anand Chaube. We have also laid a trap to arrest Chaube”.

The 50-year-old alleged victim runs a beauty parlour in Tulinj and stays alone while her daughter is married and settled in Ahmedabad.

Chaube had opened an office in 2013 near the parlour and had soon befriended her.

According to the police, the two soon got into a relationship. After gaining her confidence, Chaube took a loan of Rs 2 lakh from her. He claimed he needed the money to free his parents who were languishing in jail, which the victim later found out to be a lie.

When she demanded her money back, Chaube kept giving her excuses and later told her that instead of returning her money, if she gave him more money, he would give her a flat and a shop in a four-storey under-construction building in Chinchpada, Waliv, in Vasai.

According to the complainant, in addition to the Rs 2 lakh he initially took from her, Chaube had also allegedly taken Rs 11 lakh cash, seven tolas gold worth around Rs 2 lakh and 2 kg silver biscuits worth around Rs 90 lakh from her as payment for the promised flat and shop.

Later, according to the police, Chaube allegedly took the woman to a construction site where he repeatedly performed unnatural sex with her. The victim also alleged the accused had had intercourse with her inside Chaube’s Innova car.

“When the victim asked for her money, Chaube refused to pay her back and threatened to make their sexual relationship public on the social media. It was then that she decided to approach us and register a complaint,” said API Potdar.

The beautician has alleged that the accused had falsely professed his love for her to free himself from repaying her loan, said the official.

According to the police, in order to threaten the victim, Chaube would flaunt his connections with Congress leaders and show her photos clicked with the leaders. The police is now trying to verify whether Chaube is really a Congress worker or not.
