Mumbai: The third round of merit list for the first year junior college (FYJC) came out officially on Saturday for students who were eagerly waiting for their names to be featured in the list. Out of 78,393 students who had applied, 47,956 were allotted seats. Out of the allotted ones, 3,516 are for the Arts stream, 12,285 for Science, 31,745 for Commerce and 410 in Minimum Competency-based vocational courses (MCVC). This means that 30,437 more students have not acquired any seat even after three rounds, and are still waiting for their names to appear on the list. The state education department has blamed the students concerned for the same, saying they “are not filling the forms properly.”

The state education department office at Charni Road has been packed since Friday morning by students and parents of students whose names have not been listed in any round despite them scoring 60 plus percentage. “I have scored 75 percentage and all the colleges in the preference list have the cut off below my percentage. Yet my name has been not listed on any list, not even the third list in which I expected to appear,” said a student who was visiting the department to inquire about the matter. Likewise, many other students from various parts of the city had assembled outside the department, as their name has not appeared against a single college they have preferred.

“Students have August 3 and 4 in their hand to update their preference list and streams of their choice in order for them to get their name listed in the fourth list, which will be declared on August 6,” said Rajendra Ahire, assistant director of education, Mumbai Region.
