Mumbai: The state has issued a government resolution (GR), stating that all the judges of the Bombay high court will get medical reimbursement for all kind of emergencies and diseases.

The GR stated that judges’ family members could also avail the medical reimbursement.

Earlier, reimbursement was limited to only 27 types of emergencies and five grievous diseases. But now reimbursement can be sought for expenses related to treatment of all types of diseases and also pathological tests.

According to the GR, a meeting was conducted between the Chief Justice of the Bombay high court and then chief minister of Maharashtra on July 1, 2014.

In the meeting, it was decided that reimbursement of medical expenses should be provided to the working judges. Further, it was also decided that expenses of medical tests, which will be conducted at a private hospital and private laboratories, would also be reimbursed. Since 2014, the state was mulling over the government resolution.

In January, the state government gave approval to the decisions and issued a GR. The state government also stated in the GR that it would pay the instalments (premium) of the group medical insurance scheme of Rs 5 lakh for each judge.

The GR stated that the authority to approve reimbursement up to Rs one lakh is given to the Chief Justice of the Bombay high court and beyond that it should be sent to the public health department for approval.

The GR also asserted that these facilities should be implemented with immediate effect.
