In majority of Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandals, spectacles and sceneries in the pandals attract lot of devotees.

Mumbai: This Ganeshotsav, plastic ban will the main theme of several Ganesh Mandals in the city. Keeping in tune with the move taken by the state government, several Ganesh Mandals in the city have decided to spread the message of plastic hazards during the festival.

In majority of Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandals, spectacles and sceneries in the pandals attract lot of devotees. Many of the spectacles are based on social messages. On the backdrop of prevailing plastic ban, many Mandals have decided to support the move with the help of spectacles.

Shivadi Madhya Vibhag Sarvjanik Ganeshotsav Mandal has decided to exhibit the spectacle of plastic Bhasmasura this year. “Just like the Bhasmasura demon in the mythology, plastic menace today has reached dangerous proportions. With the help of an audio-visual show, we will appeal people to recognise the threat and discard it. One of our activists will play the role of plastic Bhasmasura during the show,” said Vijay Indulkar, the Mandal official.

Jay Ganesh Maidan Ganeshotsav Mandal from Chirag Nagar, Ghatkopar, will have a spectacle comparing the heaven and earth. Omkar Pote from the Mandal said, “In heaven, we have shown Bhagwan Vishnu and Narad expressing concern over the dismal condition of earth created due to plastic menace. As they decide to destroy the earth, the Mother India assures them to rectify the situation by taking preventive measures.”
