Kolkata: ‘Mentally ill’ aunt hacks 8-year-old boy to death

Kolkata: A minor was hacked to death by his aunt in the port area. The accused, Jyotsna Bibi, was later arrested by the police.

She was staying at the residence of her brother Abdul Malik Molla, 32, on Panchpara Road in Rajabagan for the last four months.

The police said she had a fall out and a huge fight with her husband Mehatab Molla, who also stays in the same locality.

The victim, eight-year-old Abdul Rakib Molla, was her nephew, deputy commissioner of police (port) Sudeep Sarkar said.

He was a student of Class 2 at JD School. Simultaneously, Ms Jyotsna was also undergoing psychological treatment at Antara Hospital  in Baruipur of South 24 Parganas for mental problems, according to her family.

On Tuesday night, Abdul went to sleep with his aunt in a room which was locked from inside.

Ms Jyotsna, however, slit his throat with a vegetable knife, according to preliminary investigation. The boy with deep injuries was rushed to SSKM Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Ms Jyotsna was later arrested on murder charge under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code after his brother lodged a complaint with the police.

In a separate incident, the police on Wednesday arrested the prime accused in the vandalism at CMRI Hospital in the city following the death of a patient in February. Acting on a tip-off, a team of police from Alipore police station arrested prime accused Mohammed Shakil who had been absconding since the incident happened in February, a senior official of Kolkata police said.

The police had arrested three persons earlier on the basis of a CCTV footage.
