US man held at airport for minor’s rape

Kolkata: An man was arrested by the police at the Kolkata airport early on Tuesday in connection with the rape of a seven-year old, while trying to flee to the US. Anthony Paul Rozario (58), the accused, was caught by the cops at around 1.30 am after he reached the airport.

Deputy commissioner of police (south west) Meeraj Khalid said, “He was trying to fly to the US. The accused had fled from his house after the incident and was trying to move out of the country. He was arrested from the Airport by the team of Haridevpur PS on the basis of source information. The accused is a US citizen. He works in US as cook.”

On May 4, Anthony had allegedly raped his neighbour, a minor girl, in Haridevpur. The family of the seven-year-old victim later lodged a complaint with the police against him. Anthony has been booked in a case under Sections 376(2)(m) and 377 of the IPC and Section 6 of the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

 Anthony was remanded by the court in two days’ judicial custody.
