Woman molested in Park Street pub, husband thrashed

Kolkata: A woman was allegedly molested and assaulted by four inebriated youth at a popular nightclub in Park Street in the early hours of Sunday. Her husband was also beaten up when he tried to rescue her. The bouncers at the club M Bar rescued the couple, who later lodged a complaint at the Shakespeare Sarani police station.

A case of molestation and physical assault has been initiated against the accused. The woman, who gave birth to a child two months ago, alleged that one of the accused was one Devrat Poddar. She said, “At around 1 am we went to M Bar to meet a friend. A group of youth were partying in a drunken state there. They asked who we were and how we dared to be there.”

She alleged, “My husband told them that we were there to meet our friend. Suddenly, three of them overpowered me and molested me on the dance floor while another beat up my husband. If the bouncers had not been there, I would have been raped. Now, the accused are putting pressure on us to withdraw the complaint.”

The woman claimed, “their family members called us asking us to forgive them as they are ‘kids’.” 

The police collected the nightclub’s CCTV footage and has identified one of the accused. According to preliminary investigation, the nightclub had the permission of remaining open till 12 am. Why it remained open beyond the time, is also under investigation. Some employees of the nightclub were questioned by the cops.
