Pune: Reiterating that the Pune police had strong evidence that the recently arrested activists were mobilising and training people, K. Venkatesham, police commissioner of Pune, said that the police would produce all evidence in court to lead the case to its logical conclusion.

“During the searches carried out in May by us, we have got incriminating information that students are sent to forest interiors for training, mobilising money, discussing weap-ons and types of ammunition, amounts required for the same, instigating violence, violence against security forces and other functionaries,” he said.

About the Delhi high court’s remark that the Pune police did not have enough evidence, Venkatesham said that they had enough documents to get transit remand. He did not talk about Sambhaji Bhide or how much money had been used by the arrested activists for Maoist activities.

Asked about the activists’ contention that the panchnama and other documents for carrying out searches and arresting the activists were in Marathi and that they could not understand the same, he said, “We have translated everything word to word before carrying out searches or arresting the activists. We have video graphed the process and there will be no problem in getting information that we followed due process while carrying out search operations.”

Venkatesham said that the evidence had been collected scientifically and would be used in court. The letter mentioning the plot to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other functionaries would be us-ed in court at the appropriate time. He said that the Pune police would explain its stand to the National Human Rights Commission to prove that standard operating process was followed while arresting the activists. Venkatesham refuted allegations of the police misbehaving with P. Varavara Rao’s daug-hter and her husband Satyanarayana.

Kiran Moghe, one of the activists, said, “The activists have been ridiculously charged with plotting to kill Mr Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah on the basis of a fabricated
letter. ”
