PM still a popular choice across city LS seats

Modi’s popularity highest in Old Delhi, lowest in Northwest.

New Delhi: A survey conducted revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the most popular choice in all the seven Lok Sabha constituencies in the national capital.

Mr Modi’s popularity is the highest in Chadni Chowk constituency, where 72 per cent wished to see him as Prime Minister, while the lowest was recorded in Northwest constituency at 58 per cent.

The survey was conducted by Global Young Action Network (GYAN) Foundation, a group of young professional. Founder of GYAN Foundation, Sumeet Bhasin, told this newspaper that Prime Minister Modi’s popularity has increased in the last five years. About 30,000 respondents gave their feedback on several issues concerning Centre, state government, and civic bodies apart from the performance of seven sitting BJP Lok Sabha members.

Talking about the increasing popularity of the Prime Minister in the national capital, Mr Bhasin said that in 2013-14, Mr Modi’s popularity gradually increased from 52 to 62 per cent. The recent survey shows his popularity has crossed 70 per cent.

More interestingly, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal was the third choice in five Lok Sabha constituencies while Congress president Rahul Gandhi is preferred as second choice in these Lok Sabha seats after Mr Modi.

When respondent was asked to give their opinion about the Lok Sabha members, Meenakshi Lekhi topped the list with a popularity of 67 per cent (35 per cent good and 32 per cent average). Udit Raj, the Lok Sabha member from Northwest Delhi, came second with 58 per cent (38 per cent good and 20 per cent average) while Union minister and member from Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha Dr Harsh Vardhan secured third position in the popularity list with 56 per cent (35 per cent good and 21 per cent average).

Delhi BJP president and Lok Sabha member from the Northeast constituency, Manoj Tiwari, secured fourth position in the popularity chart with 56 per cent (29 per cent good and 27 per cent average) followed by South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri with 52 per cent (35 per cent good and 17 per cent average).
