215 Delhi cops found guilty in last 5 years

New Delhi: In 143 cases of corruption, 215 Delhi police officials were found guilty and were booked for bribery in the last five years. According to the Delhi police data, 16 cops were found buried deep into this bog in 2018 itself, including two inspector rank officials and three sub inspectors.

Further, five assistant sub inspectors (ASI) were booked for taking bribe followed by three head constables and the same number of constables. Appropriate action has been taken against them. In addition, 14 cases of corruption were registered against police personnel in 2018 till November 30.

However, from 2014 till 30 November, 2018, total 143 cases of corruption were registered against Delhi police officials.

According to the data, the number of erring Delhi police personnel in 2014 was 77 and in 2015 the number declined to 48. Such cases have shown a decline from 77 to 48.

“We have taken action against these officials as per law,” said a police official. Similarly, 53 cases of corruption were registered in 2014, which came down to 26 in 2015.

In 2016, the numbers of cops booked for bribery slipped to 24 with just 19 cases. The previous year, 2017, was a rough one for the Delhi police, as 50 cops were found guilty in 31 cases of corruption.

This year, however, was a relief to Delhi police as only 14 cases of corruption were lodged and only 16 cops were booked for bribery. Apart from registering Prevention of Corruption (POC) Act cases and taking up probes, strict departmental action was taken against the defaulting personnel, said the police.
