New Delhi: The police is reviewing the implementation of various community policing schemes which were put on the backburner due to insufficient manpower and funds, besides the lack of interest shown by the overburdened personnel. The police is also likely to introduce yoga classes to attract youths to join the community policing scheme.

Sources said on July 6, a meeting between top Delhi police officials was held and various community policy schemes were discussed. The police also plans to re-organise the Nirbheek scheme for school and college girls to make them aware about sexual crimes and educate them about “good touch and bad touch”.

Like development, the crime graph of the city is also northbound. Murder, dacoity, carjacking and theft have risen. To overcome the problem, it was decided to set up a network of people who will be working as the eyes and ears for the police.

While on the issue of women safety, the commissioner of police (CP) directed the district DCPs that follow-up action must be taken on the ground of women safety measures, particularity in vulnerable areas. Self-defence training for girls/women should also be conducted in schools and colleges on a regular basis.

All the district DCPs, especially the north and south campus, were instructed to make adequate arrangement outside the collages during the admission process.

“Community policing schemes like Jan Sampark, Pehchaan, Aapka Prahari, Yuva, Nirbheek and Shishtachar were discussed and the concerned district DCPs were told to monitor and ensure proper implementation of these schemes in their areas,” said the sources.

“The Nirbheek scheme will also be re-organised and only trained women staff would be tasked to go to schools/colleges and sensitise girls/women about preventive measures against sexual offenders,” the sources added.
