Cops raid illegal liquor booth at Pragati Maidan

The owner and the illicit liquors were handed over to the Delhi police for further legal action under the Delhi Excise Act.

New Delhi: The Delhi police raided a booth operating from Pragati Maidan on Friday for selling illicit liquor. Top liquor brands were seized from the spot. A case was registered under relevant sections of the Excise Act at the Tilak Marg police station on Friday.

On Friday afternoon, a Delhi police team, on the direction of the senior officers from Delhi excise department, visited an exhibition for architects at Hall No. 14 at Pragati Maidan. The booth/office outlet of the “A-Class Marble India Pvt. Ltd” was inspected and enquiry was made about the license for serving liquor. The company manager, who was present at the booth, informed that the P-10 license, which is needed for serving liquor in marriages and other private events, was not procured by his office. Upon the inspection of the booth, several bottles of foreign branded wine and beer were recovered from the floor behind the bar counter. Upon enquiry, the manager mentioned that all the liquor mentioned in the complaint was purchased from a shop in Gurgaon Sector 18 and bought by him. Based on the information, an offence for selling illicit liquor was made out. The owner and the illicit liquors were handed over to the Delhi police for further legal action under the Delhi Excise Act.
