Man masturbates next to girl in bus
Tries to repeatedly touch DU student’s waist; victim goes to cops with video.
New Delhi: A student of Delhi University (DU) has lodged a complaint against a middle-aged man for allegedly masturbating and trying to repeatedly touch her waist while sitting beside her in a moving DTC bus on February 7.
The 23-year-old student has registered an FIR against the man with the Vasant Vihar police station. No arrest has been made in the case. The woman has also posted a video of the entire incident on social media.
The complainant, a final year student studying English (Honours), claimed that no one came forward to help her after she raised an alarm. The incident took place around 3 pm on February 7 aboard an orange cluster bus plying on route number 774.
The student was returning home from college when she felt the seat shaking.
“I was reading a book when the seat started shaking. I soon realised that the man sitting beside me was indulging in something wrong. He repeatedly tried to touch my waist with his elbow. I recorded his act on my mobile phone before calling him out,” she said.
She returned home and narrated the incident to her family and said that she intended to lodge a police complaint.
“But my family was hesitant. So, I uploaded the video on Twitter and tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi police and other authorities,” she said.
She posted the one-minute video on social sites the following day.
“I confronted him and told him he had no shame. He appeared drunk and didn’t seem to understand what I was saying,” she said.
She further said that the ordeal went on for about 10 minutes, but the 30-odd passengers in the bus allegedly ignored the incident.
She claimed that she ignored the man when he was misbehaving with her.
However, she was shocked when she saw him unzipping his pants and masturbating. She later approached the police.
An FIR has been lodged with the Vasant Vihar police under Sections 354 (sexual harassment), 354A, and 294 (obscene act in public place) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
