Mercury dips as light rains, winds lash city

New Delhi: Light rainfall lashed the national capital and adjoining areas on Wednesday, as dark clouds covered the sunny sky and brought the mercury down by several degrees.

Delhiites also witnessed gusts of wind sweeping the city at 35 to 36 km per hour, along with rainfall.

The India meteorolo-gical department (IMD) has issued a warning of 50 to 60 kmph winds along with light rains in some areas of the city.

The maximum temperature on Wednesday was recorded at 35.8 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal for this part of the season, while the minimum settled at 22.4 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal.

The humidity in air in the city oscillated between 55 and 61 per cent. According to Safdarjung Observatory, there were traces of rain in the last 24 hours. The India meteorolo-gical department has also predicted a partly cloudy sky on Thursday.

As per forecast, there is a possibility of rainfall or thundershowers with squall on Saturday and strong gust winds accompanied with rain or thundershowers are expected in the city on Sunday.

Parts of Delhi-NCR had witnessed a dust storm coupled with a drizzle on Monday and Tuesday, with MeT department keeping an eye on its progress.

The Delhi government had issued a list of Dos and Don’ts to help the public in dealing with possible situations. The advisory asked people to prepare an emergency kit with essential items and secure their houses.
