All bromance stories tend to begin from light conversations held at restrooms. Ankit Dayal (vocals and acoustic guitar) and Rohan Rajadyaksha (vocals and keys) expressed their music sensibilities and their heartfelt desire to form a music band to each other in a washroom at St Xavier’s College and decided to concretise their passion for music - this is how Spud in the Box came into existence. With their pitch perfect harmonies and their easy-on-ears music, the duo was among the initial members of the six-piece alternative pop-rock band. The band is currently on a musical high as they are receiving warm responses for their recently launched debut EP titled, Attention Please. “We recorded the EP live at Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai. It has four songs that are regulars in our live setlist. Backing the band is the sound engineer and mixer, KJ Singh, who has worked with Rabbi Shergill, AR Rahman, Parikrama and Euphoria. He has signed the band under his label Asli Music,” shares vocalist and guitarist Ankit. The band has been a part of several high-profile collaborations. Their music is doing the rounds on the Net, including the popular Youtube hits-- Good way to die and Jokes aside among others. “We’ve been touring across India and have opened for some of the biggest acts in India like Indus Creed, Junkyard Groove and The Raghu Dixit project. We also opened for international artiste, Norah Jones in Mumbai. Other than clubs and regular venues around the country, we’ve also performed at the NH7 Weekender, shared the stage with Indie music veterans Uday Benegal and Mahesh Tinaikar (Indus Creed) and Carnatic fusion percussionist Vivek Rajagopalan among others,” informs Ankit. Set up in 2011, SITB boasts of young faces with average age of its members between 20-21 years. Promising a good gig, Ankit and Rohan are joined on stage by Zubin Bhathena on bass, Joshua Singh on drums, Siddharth Talwar and Hartej Sawhney on guitars. “Our backgrounds do vary, as do our musical influences but that helps us improvise our acts. This way, each song goes through six filters before it’s released,” quips Rohan. Talking about their upcoming projects, Ankit puts forth, “We are looking forward to work on a full length album soon, but the release date hasn’t been decided yet. What we do know, is that the four days we recorded the EP provided us with a bunch of invaluable lessons that we weren't aware of.” Being one of the freshest bands featuring in the indie music scene, the members are optimistic about making it big in the future.
