Sense and sensibility

The Supreme Court’s permission to a rape victim to abort her 24-week-old foetus following a report from a medical board stating that the foetus has congenital abnormalities and that the mother’s life would be in danger if the pregnancy is continued, is laudable. The law does not permit the termination of a pregnancy that exceeds 20 weeks except in a case where continuance of the foetus threatens the mother’s life. The law should be rigid but humanitarian as well.
