Manipur “Iron Lady” Irom Sharmila’s decision to end her 16-year-long fast to repeal the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act is welcome.
Manipur “Iron Lady” Irom Sharmila’s decision to end her 16-year-long fast to repeal the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act is welcome.
Ms Sharmila, who was force-fed since 2000, has decided to end her silent resistance and stand up for her people by contesting elections. She stated that she would have to resort to stronger means to end the “draconian” AFSPA.
Ms Sharmila’s decision is a wise one. After her silence, her voice will have a greater impact on mainstream politicians.
