Israel’s defence minister Moshe Yaalon said on Tuesday that Islamic State militants had been funded with “Turkish money”, an assertion that could hinder attempts to mend fences between the two countries after years of estrangement.

“It’s up to Turkey, the Turkish government, the Turkish leadership, to decide whether they want to be part of any kind of cooperation to fight terrorism. This is not the case so far,” Mr Yaalon told reporters in Athens.

“As you know, Daesh (ISIS) enjoyed Turkish money for oil for a very, very long period of time. I hope that it will be ended,” Mr Yaalon, a right-wing former armed forces chief, told reporters after meeting his Greek counterpart, Panos Kammenos.

Meanwhile, An Israeli woman stabbed and killed by two Palestinians in a West Bank settlement was buried on Tuesday, as pressure mounted on Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to stem a fresh wave of attacks. A spokeswoman for Jerusalem’s Hadassah hospital said Shlomit Krigman, 24, had died after being admitted on Monday in the wake of the attack.

She was buried in a Jerusalem cemetery on Tuesday afternoon. Anoth-er woman wounded in the same Monday attack outside a grocery store in Beit Horon settlement, northwest of Jerusalem, was hospitalised in moderate condition. The two attackers, identified as Ibrahim Allan, 23, and Hussein Abu Ghosh, 17, were shot dead.
