A case of sedition has been filed against actor Aamir Khan in a Kanpur court after his statement intolerance in the country.

It has been alleged that the actor tried to divide the country by his remarks. The complaint has been filed by a local lawyer Manoj Dixit. The case has been filed under IPC section 124 A (sedition), 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on religious grounds) 153 B (Imputations) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief).

The court will hear the matter on 1st December. BJP MLA Satish Mahana burnt an effigy of Aamir Khan in Kanpur Wedne-sday. The MLA said that the actor was a superstar because he was in India and not in an Islamic state.

Aamir Khan had said that he has been alarmed by a number of incidents and his wife Kiran Rao even suggested that they should probably leave the country. His statement erupted row on Twitter, with people asking him to leave the country if he also feels so. Even, the film fraternity did not welcome his statement.

Case filed on couple in Bihar too As Bollywood actor Aamir Khan clarified his stance on “growing intolerance” saying that he and his wife Kiran Rao “loved India and will never leave it”, a lawyer and an activist in Bihar lodged a complaint case against him and his film director wife Kiran Rao stating that his statement on Intolerance “was an effort to defame the nation”.

The case was lodged by Sudhir Kumar Ojha on Wednesday in Muzafarpur court. According to Mr Ojha, he felt compelled to lodge a case of sedition against Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran Rao as he felt his statement that intolerance in the country is growing could destroy the social fabric of the country. “His statement defamed the nation and created a bad environment in the country,” Mr Ojha said after lodging a complaint case in the court of chief judicial magistrate Sushma Trivedi.

The case was filed under section 153 (A) and B and 124 (A), 153 (A), which amounts to sedition, causing enmity on religious grounds and assertions prejudicial to national integration. The case will come up for hearing on December 1. Cine star Aamir Khan during an award show in New Delhi had said that his wife fearing threat for her child had asked him whether they should leave the country due to growing intolerance in the country.
