The Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM), an affiliate of the RSS, has decided to move court to register an FIR against Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav for his recent remarks regarding firing on “kar sevaks” in Ayodhya in November 1990.

MRM leader Raees Khan said that they had made an attempt to lodge the FIR at the Hazratganj police station in Lucknow, but the same was not accepted by the police which claimed that the matter was “being investigated”.

“Mr Yadav has publicly accepted that he ordered the firing on ‘kar sevaks’ that left 16 persons dead. This calls for an FIR but since his own party is in power at the moment, it is understandable that the police will not register the FIR. We have no option but to move court,” he said.

It may be recalled that at an event last week, Mr Yadav had said that even if 30 people had been killed in the (1990) firing instead of 16, he would not have withdrawn his decision.

He said that though he felt “sad” on ordering the firing on “kar sevaks”, it was necessary to save the religious place. He had also said that if such action had not been taken, a wrong message would have gone across to Muslims who would have started doubting their safety in this country. He had said that his decision was necessary to maintain unity in society.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has also demanded that a case of conspiracy for murder of innocent Hindus be registered against Mr Yadav.

“In 1990, Mulayam Singh first challenged ‘kar sevaks’ by putting a ban on ‘Panchkosi parikrama’. Later, he ordered firing on innocent kar sevaks who were going to take part in the parikrama. Now he is saying that he ordered the firing to protect the mosque,” said Sharad Sharma, VHP spokesperson of Awadh Prant.

He has made these remark to attract Muslims voters ahead of the 2017 Assembly polls,” said Sharad Sharma, VHP spokesperson of Awadh Prant.
