Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah doesn’t want a quarterly review of his ministers and government, but state Congress chief G. Parameshwara insists that there will be such an evaluation regardless. Speaking on Saturday at a day-long workshop organised by the KPCC's minority wing on the UPA government’s schemes, Dr. Parameshwara said, "The quarterly assessment is Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi’s idea. “As KPCC president, I cannot ignore his directions. In our party, we have to implement it whether someone likes it or not”. Turning to Haj and Minority Affairs minister Qamarul Islam, Dr Parmeshwara pointedly asked, "Qamarul sab, you may not like being assessed every quarter, but what can I do The instruction has come from Gandhi himself. I have to stick to it. I hope you will not blame me for it." Dr. Parameshwara also outlined the duties of legislators and ministers, saying that legislators have to tour and reach out to voters as well as monitor development works in their own constituencies. Ministers, he said, have to work hard to implement the promises made in the party manifesto before the elections as well as focus on the districts they had been given charge of. "Finally, you will all give me a report in the form specified by Gandhi. Your reports will be verified with district Congress presidents and from various sources in the government, too," he said. Dr. Parameshwara said Siddaramaiah should take urgent steps to establish fast-track courts and ensure that innocent Muslims arrested during the BJP regime on terror charges are freed."This is our commitment to minorities in the state. I appeal to Siddramaiah to focus on such matters, too,” he said.
