Abu Azmi opposes SP alliance with Congress
In his two-page letter, Mr Azmi said that in the last elections it was the Congress that had ditched the Samajwadis.
Lucknow: Senior Samajwadi leader Abu Asim Azmi has threatened to revolt against the party if it forges any kind of alliance with the Congress in the Maharashtra Assembly or Lok Sabha elections.
In a letter sent to Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, Mr Azmi has termed the Congress as being “opportunistic, non-reliable and a soft-Hindutva party”.
The SP leader, who heads the party's Maharashtra unit, has also asked Mr Yadav not to campaign for the Congress in the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections.
In his two-page letter, Mr Azmi said that in the last elections it was the Congress that had ditched the Samajwadis.
“If still the party decides to go ahead with any kind of alliance with the Congress in Maharashtra for the upcoming state Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, then I will be left with no option but to revolt against the party,” he threatened in the letter to former UP CM.
It is noteworthy that party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav has said that the Congress is capable of winning only two seats and should not be included in the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samajwadi Party alliance.
He said that together, the SP and BSP can achieve best results together.
