Bhopal: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday slammed the provision of ‘meagre’ incentive to the farmers made in the interim budget placed in the Parliament recently, saying, “Congress will ensure income guarantee, not insulting Rs 17, to the poor”, if returned to the power at the Centre.

Kicking off campaign for his party for forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh with a farmers’ rally here, he remarked that on one hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had written off debts of rich to the tune of Rs 3.5 lakh crore, but he gave a paltry Rs 17 per day to farmers.

“If you divide it further, it comes down to Rs 3.50 per day per person”, he commented.

He was apparently referring to the incentive of Rs 6000 per annum per farmer provided in the interim budget presented by Union finance minister Piyush Goel recently.
