New Delhi: The Congress on Monday announced that it would be holding the meeting of its newly-constituted highest decision-making body, the Congress Working Committee, in Hyderabad on September 16, after which an extended CWC meeting will be held the next day on September 17.

AICC general secretary (organization) K.C. Venugopal said the extended CWC will include all state Congress chiefs.

Venugopal said that on September 17 evening, which is celebrated as Telangana National Integration Day, the party will hold a “mega rally” near Hyderabad, where it will announce five guarantees for Telangana, which is due to go to the polls late this year.

After the rally, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge will flag off a cavalcade of CWC members, invitees, PCC chiefs and CLP leaders to visit each of the 119 Assembly constituencies of the poll-bound state, Venugopal said. On September 18, apart from MPs, all leaders will hold a “karyakarta” meet and conduct door-to-door distribution of the “chargesheet” against the BRS government in the morning, he said.

“After lunch, they will interact with local influencers. The event will culminate with a march to a prominent statue of Mahatma Gandhi, B.R. Ambedkar or Komaram Bheem in each constituency,” he said.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Venugopal said: “We are geared up for every fight! Make no mistake, the Congress is unstoppable!”

Kharge had on August 20 reconstituted the CWC, retaining the old guard, giving space to the young and including prominent G23 group leaders like Shashi Tharoor and Anand Sharma, in the 84-member top decision-making body of the party. The all-important CWC, formed 10 months after Mr Kharge took charge, has 39 regular members, 32 permanent invitees and 13 special invitees.

The CWC meeting in Hyderabad is being seen as sounding the poll bugle in the state. In the rally planned on September 17 in Hyderabad, some new leaders may join the Congress before the Assembly elections.
