India’s consistent stand that Dawood Ibrahim is based in Pakistan has got a virtual endorsement from the UN which has confirmed six addresses of the underworld don in Pakistan.

The listing of the UN Security Council’s ISIL and Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee also includes information about Dawood’s various passports, including those issued in Pakistan.

India, in a dossier, had cited nine addresses in Pakistan as those frequented by Dawood of which the UN Security Council’s ISIL and Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee has removed three, finding those incorrect. The committee, however, accepted the remaining six addresses provided by India.

One of the three addresses dropped by the committee was found similar to that of the residence of Islamabad’s envoy to the UN — Maleeha Lodhi.

“On 22 August 2016, the Security Council Committee pursuant to resolutions 1,267 (1999), 1,989 (2011) and 2,253 (2015) enacted the amendments specified with underline and strikethrough in the entry” concerning Dawood on its ISIL and Al-Qaeda Sanctions List of individuals and entities subject to the assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo, it said.
