Amit Shah, Arun Jaitley visit Jayalalithaa in hospital

Finance minister Arun Jaitley and BJP President Amit Shah on Tuesday visited Apollo Hospital where Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa is admitted.

Finance minister Arun Jaitley and BJP President Amit Shah on Tuesday visited Apollo Hospital where Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa is admitted.

The two leaders, who were received by a host of their party colleagues and officials from Tamil Nadu at the airport, were in the hospital for about 30 minutes, sources said.

After enquiring about the treatment given to 68-year-old Jayalalithaa, the two left the premises without speaking to the media. “Visited Apollo hospital Chennai today. I wish J. Jayalalithaa Ji, chief minister of Tamil Nadu a speedy recovery”, Mr Jaitley posted on Twitter.

Mr Shah on the microblogging site said, “Visited Apollo Hospital in Chennai to enquire about the health of Tamil Nadu CM J. Jayalalithaa Ji. I wish and pray for her speedy recovery”. Former Puducherry chief minister N. Rangasamy also visited the hospital early in the day. The AIADMK supremo was admitted to the hospital on September 22 after she complained of fever and dehydration.

In the last bulletin issued on Monday, the hospital said she continued to be under treatment and was being constantly monitored by intensivists and other consultants in the expert panel, while respiratory support, antibiotics, nutrition, supportive therapy and passive physiotherapy were being given to her.

Soon after Jayalalithaa was admitted a host of leaders including Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, BJP Leader Venkaiah Naidu, Governor P Sathasivam, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, CPI Leader D Raja visited the hospital. Tamil Nadu Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao was the first to visit her.
