Lucknow: The Congress has challenged Rae Bareli MLC Dinesh Singh, who joined the BJP on Saturday, to resign and seek fresh elections on a BJP ticket. Mr Singh and his brother Awadesh Singh had joined the BJP in presence of party president Amit Shah in Rae Bareli on Saturday afternoon.

Mr Singh has claimed in his speech that the Congress owes its identity in Rae Bareli to him and that the party had done nothing for him.

“If Dinesh Singh thinks that the Congress did nothing for him, he should immediately resign and seek fresh elections on a BJP ticket. He should have no problem in winning since he claims he is very popular,” said Congress spokesman Zeeshan Haider.

The Congress spokesperson said that Dinesh Singh had made tall claims about  showing his strength in Mr Amit Shah’s rally but the truth of his support in the constituency stood exposed as only a few hundred person turned up for the event.

Mr Haider also targeted Mr Shah and CM Yogi Adityanath and said, “Mr Amit Shah should apologise for hurting the sentiments of the public for saying that the UP is known to be land of goons and gangsters before the BJP came to power in 2014.”

Mr Haider said that the people of Amethi and Rae Bareli will teach BJP a lesson in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
