Elderly man forced to lick own spit

Patna: A village Panchayat in Nalanda district of Bihar ordered an elderly man Mahesh Thakur to lick his own spit as a punishment for entering the house of Sarpanch without knocking the door.

An FIR has been registered against eight persons including, the Sarpanch who allegedly passed the order.  

According to the police, Mahesh Thakur was also beaten up by slippers by village women during the Panchayat meeting. “Officials have been asked to gather information regarding the incident.  

The victim has confirmed the incident, action will be taken against those who have been involved”, Nalanda District magistrate S.M. Thyagrajan said on Friday.

The incident took place in Ajaypur village of Noorsarai block in Nalanda district, which is also the home district of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar.

“The victim was also beaten up by women during the Panchayat on Thursday,”” said Thyagrajan.

According to the police, a special team has been constituted and raids are being conducted to arrest those who have been involved in the incident.

Sources from the Nalanda informed this newspaper that Mahesh Thakur tried to enter the house of Sarpanch when no male member was present.  

Mr Mahesh Thakur who belongs to barber community and also runs a small salon in the village had gone to the house of Village Sarpanch on Wednesday evening for tobacco.

FIR against the Sarpanch and other persons involved in the incident were registered on Friday, a day after the incident occurred.

The district administration took cognizance after a video of the incident went viral on Friday.

Sources say that senior BJP leader and Cabinet minister Nand Kishore Yadav also directed the administration to initiate action against those involved in the case. Speaking on the issue Mr. Yadav said, “Such incident cannot be tolerated. Officials have been asked to take tough action against the culprits”.
