New Delhi: With the unfolding of the political drama in Karnataka, the coming together of Opposition parties seem to have gathered momentum. After governor Vajju Bhai Vala invited BJP’s B.S. Yeddyurappa to form the next government in the state despite the BJP lacking a simple majority, BSP supremo Mayawati hit out at the BJP terming the entire episode as a “conspiracy to destroy the Constitution.”

Endorsing her views, TMC chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted: “We must give full respect to the maker of our Constitution, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.”

Congress and JD(S) pleaded for the same citing BJP’s inadequate strength in the assembly to stake claim at forming the state government.

Former Bihar deputy chief minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav appealed to all opposition parties to get united to save constitution and democracy.”  CPI(M) said the Opposition parties are determined to organise a major movement across the country in defence of democracy, if parliamentary democratic norms are not followed in Karnataka, Former BJP leader Yashwant Sinha, who staged a protest outside the Rashtrapati Bhavan over Karnataka governor inviting the BJP to form the government alleged that the “unconstitutional” move by the Governor amounted to “murder of democracy.”

He alleged the decision has led to a situation where MLAs will be auctioned under the “Indian Political League” the way cricketers “are auctioned in the Indian Premier League (IPL).”

Accused the BJP of misusing official machinery to install its government in Karnataka, Ms Mayawati described the recent developments in the state as a conspiracy to destroy the Constitution. She alleged that the BJP had been misusing government machinery ever since it came to power at the Centre.

“It is a conspiracy to destroy the Constitution drafted by Baba Saheb (BR) Ambedkar. Since they (the BJP) came to power, they have been misusing government machinery and attacking democracy,” the former UP CM said.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav tweeted: “Yesterday it was Bihar. Today it is Karnataka. Tomorrow it can be any other state.”
