Lakme Fashion Week: A regal ending

Sabyasachi Mukherjee put up a spectacular show to bring Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2016 to a close on Sunday. The grand finale, titled Illuminate, featured trademark sari designs, kurtas and suits from Sabya’s collection. It included sportswear for the very first time, as well as bejewelled micro-mini dresses. Sabyasachi’s collection for men was as stunning as his line for the women. The bandh-gala, rich silk sherwanis with floral prints defined the look on the ramp. The collection featured heavily embroidered anarkalis, suits, cocktail dresses and lehengas. The colour palette had red, gold, blue, green and even the statement blacks. The heavy and rich velvet, was wonderfully offset with the light sheer nets of the lehengas and saris. Zardozi, Parsi work, Baroque crystals, Kashmiri tilla work, faux fur were some of the elements that dominated the collection. Kareena Kapoor Khan made a grand entry as showstopper — one befitting the begum — in a green-grey lehenga and an embellished thread-work kurti, sporting her baby bump.
