If you thought the pant suit was a formal outfit only meant to be worn at work, think again. Actresses across the world and in India have been rocking the look at parties and award functions.

The bold look that Radhika Apte carried off, the sleek attire that Deepika Padukone was seen in and the poise of Emma Watson in the outfit is making the pant suit a favourite.

To get the look down from the red carpet to the streets, here are a few tips to keep in mind.

Shreeja Rajgopal, who recently styled Radhika Apte in a blue and white pant suit, says that the outfit must be customised to one’s personality. “The pant suit that Radhika sported was an androgynous man suit. I think one must have a strong, boss-like attitude to be able to pull it off. But, the look can also be made feminine with different kinds of neck lines, jewellery and hairstyles,” she says and adds, “Floral and pink-striped pant suits are great to wear for brunches as well as for dinners. Also, wear minimal jewellery.” Elaborating on how to make the look more feminine stylist Nitasha Gaurav says, “The fitting must be made to look more glamorous than formal wear. A soft, ivory-coloured collar blouse on a black or a navy blue blazer will compliment the look. If you don’t want to be too conservative, the blazer alone can be worn without a blouse inside. The deep, plunging neckline of the blazer can be accessorised with a long, body chain. A choker can always add a chic look to the attire.”

Neerja Kona, another celebrity stylist, says that a lacy tank top underneath the blazer will also give the pant suit a feminine touch. “For a casual but stylish look, you can put on a pair of jeans with a blazer. Always make sure that the sleeves don’t end abruptly. They need to cover the wrists completely. If you’re going in for a conventional look, the crispness of the pants and well-structured shoulders of the blazers are important to keep in mind,” explains Neerja.
