Halle Berry became the first woman of colour to win an Oscar back in 2002 and while receiving it, she dedicated the award to “every nameless, faceless woman of colour that now has a chance because this door tonight has been opened.” But over a decade half since, no other woman of colour has taken home the award. This has clearly annoyed the actress who had high expectations, who told Teen Vogue that she is disappointed. She said in an interview, “It’s troubling to say the least,” and added that the 2015 race to the Oscars to which no woman of colour was nominated “was probably one of my lowest professional moments.”

The Cat Woman star said, “Wow, that moment really meant nothing. It meant nothing. I thought it meant something but I think it meant nothing.” She said that it has left her “profoundly hurt” and added, “It inspired me to get involved in other ways, which is why I want to start directing, I want to start producing more. I want to start being a part of making more opportunities for people of colour.”
