Saif Ali Khan is not a victim of censorship

Saif Ali Khan’s black comedy Kaalakandi was in the news for getting close to 70 cuts by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Eventually, the makers had to take their movie to the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) for a rewatch. However, Saif is unperturbed about it. “As far as Kaalakandi goes, I think the FCAT was great. They passed he movie with one cut, which was good,” he says.

If reports are to be believed, the cuss words and lovemaking scenes happened to be the reason behind the cuts. But Saif says, “Not all bad words are offensive. When you show two mafia members, they’re crude. And that’s just how they talk. You can give it an A certificate, if you don’t like the language.”

On being prodded further, he adds, “It would be terrible to have just candy floss movies, where everyone speaks that certain way. But I’m happy with the certification. It’s gone through a bit of red tape, but it’s worked out well. And so far, I don’t feel like I’m the victim of censorship, as such.”

The movie, directed by Akshat Verma, will also star Akshay Oberoi, Vijay Raaz, Kunaal Roy Kapur and Amyra Dastur, amongst others. Kaalakandi will release on January 12, 2018.
