PR overdrive cost Deepika Padukone Majidi film?

There is no doubt that Deepika Padukone is one of the most sought after Bollywood actresses and she is at the top of her game. With Padmavati, we can only expect her career to go to a higher plane. And yet, the actress is leaving no stone unturned to make a dent in global cinema. It is this over enthusiasm that may have cost Dippy her Majid Majidi film. In November last year, her fans were stunned to see her plain Jane look at Dhobi Ghat area. The pictures were test shots for acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi’s upcoming project, Beyond The Clouds, his first Indian film also featuring Shahid Kapoor’s brother Ishaan Khattar.

However, Deepika’s PR team went about town circulating pictures of her auditions and that apparently didn’t bode to well with the Iranian helmer. Even her appearances and interviews in the US during the promotion of xXx: Return of the Xander Cage smacked of too much eagerness, perhaps to make a mark in Hollywood. The film eventually was met with lukewarm response in the West as well, yielding little out of the marketing exercise.

Confirming the incident, a source said, “Deepika was very close to getting the part (in Majidi’s film). But when the pictures from her screen test made it into the press, she lost the opportunity.”

Perhaps restraint is the best way forward, Deepika?
