A serial dog killer slaughtered three puppies with a knife on Tuesday outside South Delhi’s Green Park Metro station, under Hauz Khas police station. According to an NGO, the area has reported the sudden disappearance of more than eight dogs in the past fortnight.

The Hauz Khas police has registered a case against unknown persons and is investigating the gruesome killings. The police is also investigating the sudden disappearance of dogs with the help of NGOs working for animal rights.

According to the police, on Tuesday morning they got a PCR call about the death of puppies outside Green Park Metro station Gate No. 1. When the police reached the spot, it found three puppies lying butchered. More dogs in the locality have stab wounds on their bodies. On examining CCTV camera footage of the Metro station, the police found a youth was stabbing dogs mercilessly.

“A youth was found luring puppies by offering them snacks. When the puppies came to eat, he stabbed them with a knife and tore them apart in two pieces with the knife. One after another he killed three puppies. When dogs approached to rescue the puppies, he also attacked them,” said a police official.

The police said the incident happened between 2.20 am and 2.38 am outside Green Park Metro station. After butchering the puppies, the youth walked away towards a market with the knife in his hand; this was also recorded by a CCTV camera installed at a shop in the market.

The killings of several dogs in the area have raised fears that a serial canine killer is on the loose. Animal lovers and NGOs working for animal rights took the injured dogs to a veterinary clinic for treatment.

“We have admitted four other injured dogs to a veterinary hospital with the help of an NGO working for animal rights. The area has witnessed the disappearance of more than one dozen dogs in the past two weeks. Now, when the attacker is identified, we want the police to nab him immediately,” said Varun Malik, a local resident.

On January 25, a similar dog-stabbing was reported near Panchsheel market. A senior police official said a resident has filed a complaint against unidentified persons for killing puppies. A through probe has been ordered into the matter.
