After the Delhi police claimed to have foiled a possible terror plot, security of all key installations and government buildings in the city was beefed up on Wednesday. The arrests of the alleged members of a Pakistan-based terror outfit have put the national capital back on terror radar.

A senior police officer of the Delhi police special cell said that nine youth have been detained for being in regular contact with three arrested members of Jaish-e-Mohammed. “We were tracking all of the members for the last six months. Around 12 teams of the Delhi police were involved in the massive raids at various places which began on Tuesday late night and continued till Wednesday morning. Personnel of other security agencies also worked with the Delhi police round-the-clock to bust the terror module. These youths had done recce of malls and other market places in the city,” said the police officer.

“After it was established that all of the group members are in touch with JeM, we had closely mapped their activities. They have done all preparations to plant bombs in the city and were waiting for instructions from the JeM. The moment we got vital inputs about presence of explosives inside the house of Sajid Ahmed located in Chand Bagh area, several police teams made multiple raids and arrested all of the suspects within 12-hours,” said the officer. “We have recovered videos and literature used by Sajid Ahmed to radicalise other members of the group. Several videos of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar were also recovered from mobile phones of the arrested persons. We are going through mobile phone data and social media accounts of all the arrested and detained persons to get more information in the case,” said the police.

“We are also examining role of other suspects in the case with the help of UP ATS team. More arrests are likely in a couple of days. We have strong evidence against the arrested persons,” added the police.
